FLAMENCO MAGIC AT UNIQUE SPACES

In August, the highlight is the Cante de las Minas de La Unión Festival, one of the most important cante jondo and flamenco events in the world. Performances by flamenco prime examples such as Estrella Morente, Sara Baras, Arcángel, Capullo de Jerez and El Pele will be combined with performances by candidates for the Lámpara Minera award. The art nouveau Old Public Market is a magical space that will be shared by both flamenco experts and non-experts.

The 55th Cante de las Minas Festival also includes additional activities and performances at different stages such as the one at the La Unión Mining Park: with 50,000m of surface, it serves as example to show how heritage restoration can help a region be on the cutting edge of tourism and culture.

A COCKTAIL OF STYLES

Also in July, Cartagena's port is wide open to an endless number of musics, plastic arts, photography, cinema and literature. The La Mar de Músicas Festival takes place in the city between the 17th and 25th July, the guest country being Chile this year. Very different styles such as boogie, futuristic jazz, techno, singer-songwriter music, neofolk, joik and fusion will shake the foundations of old Carthage. Get ready to travel around the world thanks to its sounds.

The two main stages are the Parque Torres Auditorium -from which the locality's port and the impressive archaeological remains of the Roman theatre can be admired- and the El Batel Auditorium -an exceptional watchtower by the Mediterranean-. Other stages for the festival are the Arab castle, the City Hall square, the Icue and the San Francisco squares, La Mar Chica, and the ruins of the Old Cathedral, all of them strategic locations to enjoy your leisure time while diving into history.

Flamenco concerts, recitals and performances can be enjoyed at the 36th Lo Ferro Flamenco Singing Festival, including new and consummate artists as well as contestants.

NOT JUST MUSIC

If you love the seaside, you're just lucky! Two seas (the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean), beaches and coves for every taste and more than 30 schools and sports centres along the coast offer you the possibility of enjoying nautical activities throughout the year and making the most of next summer.

Sailing, canoeing, swimming, skiing, motorboat racing, flysurfing, windsurfing or catamaran are just some suggestions. If you are a diving enthusiast, you should know that Cabo de Palos, Águilas and Mazarrón have some of Europe's most wonderful seabeds.

The most active options in the Costa Cálida are supplemented by a rich, boundless cuisine, all kinds of infrastructure and services, and an amazing nightlife.
